This is a free beading tutorial on the ladder stitch. This tutorial includes step-by-step photos. Although it is called a stitch, it is also the foundation row for other stitches, such as the brick stitch and the herringbone stitch. To see the tutorial, click on Read More below the photo.
Notes:
- To make this tutorial easier to see, large beads were used (6/0) and the thread was doubled over.
- Typically the stitch is worked using a single thread.
- The thread tension should be tight and that all the beads worked sit snug.
Pick up two beads.
Pass up through the bottom of the first bead picked.
Pass down through the top of the second bead. Make sure to pull tight so that the beads are snug together and they sit side-by-side.
Pick up one bead and pass down through the top of the previous bead.
Pass up through the bottom of the bead just added.
Continue working the ladder stitch picking up one bead at a time until you have the desired number
